As a part of the EMT Basic course, students are given the opportunity to meet their clinical requirement by participating in shifts with local EMS agencies and/or hospital emergency departments. This page provides all the details students need to review as well as the documents students need to submit in order to be allowed to participate in the clinical component of the class.
Currently, students will be able to do shifts with the Durham Fire Department, Orange County EMS, and/or an emrgency department shift with UNC Hospitals at the main hospital or the emergency department in Hillsborough.
Before you can sign up for a shift, you must review, fill out, and upload all the necessary documents below. Once you have uploaded the documents, our clinical coordinators will review the information and then approve you to sign up for a shift.
Documents are only accepted in the following file formats: PDF, JPG, JPEG, or PNG. If any other document types are submitted, they will be automatically deleted.
You must bring blank copies of the following forms to your initial shift with Durham Fire:
Civilian and EMS Oberver Release of Liability Form
Civilian Observer Safety Release Form
After your first shift with DFD, you will need to bring a blank copy of the Safety Release Form only to additional shifts with DFD.
